Hi
Are you having a great weekend? It’s a long weekend for most folks and the holiday is a chance to indulge in one last hurrah before the schools are all back in session and summer begins winding down.
If you’re trying to make a body change, don’t go overboard tomorrow. Keep everything in check and stick to your plans. You did make a plan, didn’t you??
This week we’re going to take a look at a meta-analysis. What exactly is that? It’s an analysis of other studies. There’s actually no new research. It’s difficult to make significant claims based on one research study. This looks at *many* studies for correlation.
We’re looking at this study, “Weight loss intervention adherence and factors promoting adherence: a meta-analysis”. (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4990387/)
This particular study looks at 27 other studies comparing weight loss methods and long term adherence. In other words, this is a study of studies. Where were people more successful in adhering to a weight loss program in the long term. What are the commonalities between these programs?
What did the studies find?
– We do better with a support system in place. Some sort of social community. That gives us support and accountability. Buddies, partners, etc…. Like minded individuals.
– Dietary changes are more significant factors than exercise alone. This should come as no surprise to anyone. We’ve said it time and time again…. You cannot outwork a bad diet.
Want to make change stick? Don’t do it alone!
Find a buddy. Be accountable and honest. Be consistent!
Change your nutrition habits. Make simple, consistent changes.
